A 9-year-old is among three people who were shot in East Atlanta on Wednesday night, police said.

The shooting took place on Flat Shoals Avenue near its intersection with Glenwood Avenue, according to Atlanta police. Officers responded to the scene a little after 9:30 p.m., and they initially found one gunshot victim.

The victim, a man, had been shot in the buttocks, Atlanta police spokesman Officer Anthony Grant told AJC.com.

Witnesses told officers that more people were shot during the incident. The other victims, a man and a 9-year-old boy, were later located at a hospital.

The man had been shot in the hand, while the child had gunshot wounds on both legs, Grant said. Channel 2 Action News reported that the boy had been shot four times.

The child, who is at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Hughes Spalding, and both men, who are at Grady Memorial Hospital, are also expected to survive, according to police.

Investigators believe that an argument between a large group of people escalated to gunfire. No other information on the incident has been released. No suspects are in custody.

This shooting comes days after 8-year-old Secoriea Turner was shot and killed in south Atlanta, leading to outcries for peace from government officials.

The child was among five people killed over the Fourth of July weekend in Atlanta shootings. The violence prompted Gov. Brian Kemp to deploy up to 1,000 National Guard troops to protect state buildings amid the unrest.
